Universities Across Atlanta & Northern Georgia
The UGA Bulldogs Lead the Way in the Peach State
The Formal Garden at UGA
From Atlanta to Athens, northern Georgia features a rich landscape of excellent universities and colleges. Steeped in history, these schools have been turning out high quality graduates for decades, some even centuries.
Whether you're a traveling family with a soon-to-be high school graduate and you're looking at colleges, or if you simply would like to tour and experience the history of these top schools, make your way to northern Georgia.
In Athens, discover one of the largest, oldest, and most acclaimed public universities in the state – the University of Georgia. Established in 1785, UGA's primary location is in Athens, with a 759-acre campus.
Explore the UGA campus and see some top sites like the Ilah Dunlap Little Library, UGA's main campus book source. Park Hall is one the oldest buildings on campus, and it's also home to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.
Plan your visit to UGA accordingly and check an array of exciting sports events. The Georgia Bulldogs play across 19 varsity sports. In the fall, head for Sanford Stadium to catch a football game, and during the spring, baseball fans head for Foley Field.
On your journey through Atlanta, don't miss the campus at the Georgia Institute of Technology, otherwise known as Georgia Tech. Found just north of downtown Atlanta, the Georgia Tech campus is a short drive from nearby suburbs like Morrow and College Park.
Established in 1885, Georgia Tech is massive, features satellite campuses in Shanghai, Singapore, France, and Savannah. Enjoy a campus tour with your high schooler or simply take in the history – campus highlights include Brittain Dining Hall, the Carnegie Building, and the GT Campus Recreation Center.
Athletically known as the Panthers, and established in 1913, Georgia State University is another premier school in northern GA. Closer to downtown Atlanta, GSU is just west of Interstate 85 between MLK Jr. Drive and Edgewood Avenue. Locals in Atlanta enjoy exciting GSU Panthers games in sports like soccer, football, and softball.
Check out a GSU Panthers football game at the Georgia Dome, a Panthers softball game at the Robert E. Heck Softball Complex.
