Visiting Coastal Georgia

The Peach State is sweetest in the summertime and the Atlantic coast is arguably the ripest region for a visit. Long, sunny days invite visitors to relax on the beach and countless other outdoor adventures await at inland parks and other destinations. What's more, communities from Richmond Hill to Kingsland are gearing up for more family-friendly events and activities than any other time of year. Special events, festivals, sports, one-of-a-kind attractions, and more – it's time to plan your summer visit.

Summer sunshine means more time to spend on the links, and the Georgia Coast is home to numerous top-flight golf courses. Players visiting Savannah can play on the same fairways as the PGA pros at the Club at Savannah Harbor. To the south, Brunswick and Waycross visitors can stretch the green at the Lakes at Laura S. Walker Golf Course in Waycross. And further South, Laurel Island Links is an ideal place for Kingsland visitors to sneak in a round or two.

Georgia visitors don't have to drive all the way to Hotlanta to enjoy America's Favorite Pastime this summer – the Savannah Sand Gnats' 2016 season is in full swing. It's MiLB action, a few days a week at Grayson Stadium. Check the schedule during your visit and spend a day at the ball park – the MiLB season stretches into the first week of September.

The 2016 Savannah Blues, Jazz & BBQ is two days of smooth tunes and tasty BBQ this summer at Rousakis Riverfront Plaza. Taste local flavors while taking in performances by some of the best musicians from the area and beyond. The fun starts at 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday – and, best of all, it's free.

Drop a line into one of Coastal Georgia's countless fishing holes before the late-summer heat sends the fish into hiding. Fisherman visiting Kingsland can head to the Cumberland Island National Seashore for the chance to reel in bluegill and bass in freshwater lakes, lure trout out of streams, or gather shrimp and crabs from marshes. Or, of course, you can launch a boat onto the Atlantic for some deep-sea fishing.

When summer finally does cool down, Waycross welcomes fall with the 2016 Fall Festival on October 22nd. Adorned in fall colors, Laura S. Walker State Park hosts an abundance of kids' activities, live music, hayrides, face painting, and more, starting at 4:30 p.m.
