Macon, Augustus & More Celebrations
Macon's International Cherry Blossom Festival
Georgia’s mid-section plays host to many annual festivals including famed golf attractions and heritage celebrations. Cities like Macon, Augusta, and Hawkinsville attract visitors from across the country for a peek at Peach State practices.
Set in central Georgia, Augusta is the second largest city in the state, and home to the Masters Tournament – an annual professional golf championship. Established in 1934, the Masters is held in early April at the Par 72 Augusta National Golf Club.
Yet another spring festival in central Georgia, the International Cherry Blossom Festival in held in Macon – known as the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World.
Home to more than 300,000 Yoshino cherry trees, Macon has hosted the 10-day festival in late March since 1982. Guests of the International Cherry Blossom Festival enjoy events like the Cherry Blossom Parade, Mulberry Street Festival, and the Macon Balloon Fest.
Check out the Ocmulgee National Monument along the Ocmulgee Lantern Light Tour, see who’s crowned in the Cherry Blossom Pageant, and relish in picnic food and fireworks at the Cherry Blossom Festival Grand Finale.
Many heritage festivals are held in the northern regions as well. Don’t miss the Grovetown Heritage Festival in late April in Grovetown, and the International City Fall Festival in late September in Warner Robins. Another sports related festival in northern Georgia, the Hawkinsville Harness Festival is held in Hawkinsville in late April.
